77 years ago today, on 25 March 1947 Des Moines-class heavy cruiser USS Salem CA-139 was launched at Bethlehem Steel Co. Fore River Shipyard, sponsored by Miss Mary G. Coffey, sister of the Honorable Edward A. Coffee, Mayor of her namesake, Salem, MA.
