QUINCY — The “haunted” U.S.S. Salem will be closed this weekend after a small fire damaged Halloween decorations Wednesday morning.

The Quincy Fire Department said employees aboard the 1940s era warship had extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived at the Fore River Shipyard, where the ship is docked. The decommissioned ship has served as a museum for almost 25 years and has more recently played host to Ghost Ship Harbor, a haunted house attraction.

The fire burned several 2-by-4 wood boards and plywood used in the frame of one of the decorations, according to the fire department, which said inspectors are investigating an issue with an LED light as a possible cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

A manager for Ghost Ship Harbor said they will be closed this weekend while they double check all wiring at the attraction and is working with city inspectors.

Quincy’s Inspectional Services Department is investigating the incident.
