OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- The City of Omaha appears set to settle a lawsuit stemming from the 2011 flood. The cost to taxpayers: $2.5 million.

It’s all about what happened to the USS Hazard, which is a World W II minesweeper - and to Freedom Park that surrounds it.

The park was under water during the 2011 flood and there was real fear that the Hazard would get loose.

The organization that runs the park alleged the city failed to grant permits to restore and rebuild the property and breached the lease it had.

USS Hazard Incorporated sought $64 million in damages but has agreed with the city to settle for $2.5 million.

The proposed settlement will go before the city council on Tuesday. The settlement would also allow USS Hazard Incorporated to extend the lease after it expires in 2022.
