81 years ago today, on 1 May 1945 three mast barque Gorch Fock was scuttled by her crew in shallow waters off RĂ¼gen, Germany in an attempt to avoid her capture by the Soviets.
The Soviets ordered her raised in 1947, restored between 1948-50, after which she became the training vessel Tovarishch.
