Yorktown CV-10 hit

81 years ago today, on 18 March 1945 Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Yorktown CV-10 was hit by a 500 lb Japanese bomb from a Judy dive bomber. It hit the signal bridge, passed through the first deck and exploded near the ship's hull. It punched two large holes through her side, killed five men, and wounded another 26. Yorktown, however, remained fully operational, and her anti-aircraft gunners brought the attacker down.
