Shieldhall entered service

USS Blueback commissioned

64 years ago today, on 15 October 1959, Barbel-class submarine USS Blueback SS-581 was commissioned with LCDR Robert H. Gautier in command.
She was the last non-nuclear submarine to join the United States Navy and was the final conventionally powered combat capable submarine to be decommissioned, leaving the United States Navy with a fully nuclear submarine fleet except for the research submarine USS Dolphin.

USS Thornback commissioned

On 13 October 1944, Tench-class submarine USS Thornback (SS-418) was commissioned, Commander Ernest P. Abrahamson in command.
She was transferred to the Turkish Navy on 2 July 1975 as TCG Uluçalireis with pennant number S-338.

Trincomalee launched

On 12 October 1817, Royal Navy Leda-class frigate HMS Trincomalee was launched by the Wadia family shipwrights in Bombay, Inda.
She was named after the 1782 Battle of Trincomalee off hte Ceylon (Sri Lanka) port of that name.
Now a museum ship in Hartlepool, UK, part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

Forceful decommissioned

On 11 October 1943, tugboat HMAS Forceful (W-126) was decommissioned from Naval service and returned to civilian duties.
During her war service she was based at Darwin and operated mainly in northern Australian waters.
She received two battle honours for her wartime service: "Darwin 1942-43" and "Pacific 1941-1943".
Now a museum ship at the Queensland Maritime Museum, Brisbane, QLD, Australia
