On 7 December 1943, Liberty ship SS Arthur M. Huddell was launched at St. Johns River Shipbuilding, Jacksonville, FL.
In 2008 she was transferred to Greece for conversion to a maritime museum and was renamed Hellas Liberty.

34 years ago today, on 4 December 1990, Danish Tumleren-class submarine HDMS Sælen (S323) sank while being towed from Copenhagen to Aarhus. On 17 December, she was raised by the German floating crane Roland and taken to Aarhus for repair. On 10 August 1993, diving approval was issued and the boat was recommissioned.

On 25 November 1944, during the Philippines campaign, Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CV-11) was struck by two kamikazes, killing sixty-six men and causing a serious fire. The ship remained on station, however, and the fires were extinguished within two hours. She was detached for repairs the following day, and reached San Francisco on 20 December.
