Gorch Fock scuttled
81 years ago today, on 1 May 1945 three mast barque Gorch Fock was scuttled by her crew in shallow waters off Rügen, Germany in an attempt to avoid her capture by the Soviets.
The Soviets ordered her raised in 1947, restored between 1948-50, after which she became the training vessel Tovarishch.
