USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. decommissioned and struck

On 2 July 1973, Gearing-class destroyer USS Jospeh P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850) was decommissioned by her last CO CDR Brian Patrick McCrane, and struck from the Naval Vessel Register.

LST-325 decommissioned

On 2 July 1946, LST-325 was decommissioned at Green Cove Springs, Florida, and laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet.

HMS Fal commissioned

On 2 July 1943, River-class frigate HMS Fal was commissioned.
She was transferred to Burma on 25 May 1947 as UBS Mayu, and has been preserved as a museum ship at Myanmar Naval Training Headquarters
