USS Batfish - SS-310

uss-batfishUSS Batfish earned nine battle stars for her World War II service in the Pacific. She sank 14 ships and damaged three others during her seven war patrols. Over a period of four days in February 1945, she sank three Japanese submarines. For this feat, the "sub killer" was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. Her other WW II exploits included blasting a grounded destroyer, bombarding a Japanese village, and rescuing downed aviators.

Decommissioned 6 April 1946 at the Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, California.
Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Mare Island Group.
Recommissioned 7 March 1952.
Redesignated Auxiliary Research Submarine (AGSS-310) 1 July 1960.
Decommissioned 1 November 1969.
Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet.
Struck from the Naval Register 28 February 1972.
Final Disposition, placed as a permanent memorial at Muskogee, Oklahoma.
